Short bio/Community Involvement
Misty Yee brings decades of experience in geriatric education, program development, and research, all rooted in a deep commitment to improving care for kūpuna. At the University of Hawaiʻi John A. Burns School of Medicine, she leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of geriatric and palliative medicine curricula, working closely with trainees, faculty, and clinical partners to create impactful, real-world learning experiences. She also oversees key administrative and educational systems that support and strengthen training across the department. Her work is backed by extensive involvement in nationally recognized geriatrics initiatives, including programs supported by the John A. Hartford Foundation and the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, where she contributed to advancing interdisciplinary training and evaluating large-scale education models. Prior to her work in Hawaiʻi, she held leadership and research roles at UCLA, where she supported statewide and national geriatrics programs, including the evaluation of the Geriatric Interdisciplinary Team Training (GITT) initiative and initiatives focused on managed care for older adults. Across every role, Misty’s work reflects a sustained dedication to strengthening the geriatric workforce, improving training systems, and ultimately enhancing the quality of care for older adults and their communities.
