Short bio/Community Involvement 
Dr. Okamoto is a nationally recognized leader in geriatric medicine and education, and a recipient of the Geriatrics Academic Career Award (GACA), a highly competitive HRSA-funded award supporting the development of academic leaders in geriatrics. As one of a select group of GACA awardees in the United States, her work is centered on shaping the future of the geriatric workforce and advancing care for culturally diverse aging populations.

Her clinical leadership extends across Hawaii’s long-term care community, where she serves as Medical Director at Arcadia Retirement Residence, 15 Craigside, and Hale Ho Aloha. Through this work, she brings a strong focus on ethnogeriatrics, post-acute care, and systems-level improvements that enhance quality of life for older adults.

Dr. Okamoto’s work bridges education, clinical care, and community impact, driving forward innovative, culturally grounded approaches to aging in Hawaii and beyond.
