Medicine (IM) Residents

Selective in Geriatric & Palliative Medicine

Second year IM Residents (PGY-2) rotate with Geriatrics faculty during this required selective. The four-week rotation provides residents with an overview of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine in the outpatient, inpatient, and/or nursing home settings.  A variety of instructional methods are utilized, including clinical and written experiences in addition to workshops and seminars.  In addition to a range of clinical and patient experiences, this rotation also involves a variety of interdisciplinary teachers such as nurses, social workers and chaplains. Teaching and learning across disciplines is a key component of both geriatric and palliative medicine.

Kuakini Medical Center Geriatrics Teaching Rounds

In January 2014, we began another exciting initiative. Our faculty started geriatrics teaching rounds for IM residents at Kuakini Medical Center every month. Residents present challenging geriatrics cases on the hospital service, and a geriatrician leads the discussion highlighting principles of IDT geriatrics, thus supporting clinical care on the hospital team service.

Family Medicine (FM) Residents
